We like to spend evenings sitting around a fire in our back yard. For a long time we only used a poker to adjust wood in the fire. I had seen some tongs for working in a fireplace and thought that I could change the design to fit our needs.
I wanted a pair of tongs that were a little sturdier than the examples that I had seen. Many of the historical examples were for use in cooking fires, but we often found ourselves needing to move larger pieces of wood.
By forging the tongs from 3/8 ” square steel, you end up with a strong tool that is also lightweight. The handles allow for various types of grips to lift and adjust wood in your fire. They can be used as easily in an indoor fireplace, wood stove, or a fire pit.
